Before I share more about my credentials and professional philosophy, it’s important that I begin with transparency: I am a white woman, and I hold white privilege. I work in a field that has long been dominated by whiteness, and I benefit from systems that were not built to be equitable for everyone.

Since launching my practice, I’ve intentionally chosen to work with organizations and individuals committed to justice and equity—across sectors. My work is rooted in the belief that meaningful change happens when we name systems of oppression, understand how they operate, and take responsibility for disrupting them—starting with ourselves.

If you’re considering working with me, you should know that I don’t separate this lens from the rest of my practice. I believe that acknowledging my privilege, doing the work of anti-racism, and continuing to examine my own blind spots are not optional—they’re essential. This shapes how I show up, how I listen, how I give feedback, and how I hold space for others.

This work is ongoing, and I’m still on the journey. If we partner together, I will still be on it—with humility, accountability, and a deep commitment to creating spaces where equity isn’t just talked about, but actively pursued.

SARAH WACHS

Setting you up for Fundraising Success

I’m a direct, results-driven relationship-builder with a passion for helping mission-driven organizations unlock their full fundraising potential. For over 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of partnering with teams committed to making a difference.

WHY CHOOSE ME?

I bring experience from every side of the table.
I’ve been a Development Director, a board member, and a consultant. I know firsthand what it’s like to juggle competing priorities and deliver results with limited resources. I’ve led teams, built systems from scratch, and supported staff and boards in moving from discomfort to confidence. That 360° perspective allows me to understand your reality and offer solutions that are grounded, practical, and strategic.

I’m not afraid. Fundraising can be uncomfortable. Rejection is hard. I know inside and out what you are facing and can help you create systems and frameworks to overcome roadblocks [and fears] around fundraising.

I can meet you where you are. Whether you are a brand new organization, need systems and infrastructure – or are launching a capital campaign – I will help you identify the obstacles and then work with you to devise a strategy to remove them.

I ask the hard questions. Raised by a therapist and an attorney, what can I say? I come by this way of operating naturally.

What you need to know about me is I love connecting with people right off the bat, putting people at ease, and building community. I find joy personally and professionally in facilitating meaning in people’s lives. Fundraising is rooted in building relationships that are based on shared values.

To learn more about my professional background, please connect with me on LinkedIn. To see if we’re a match, let’s set up a call. I have a proven track record and I’m excited to help your organization advance its mission. Let’s connect!

Fun Facts About Me

• I skipped the second grade.

• I dreamed of being the first woman President. (That is, until I worked on a Presidential campaign.)

• I live in Oakland.

• I am on the board of the nonprofit, Oakland Genesis.

• And yes, “Wachs” is pronounced just like bees wax.

Sarah supported us during a leadership transition and facing the largest fundraising goal in our school’s 50 year history. Not only did we meet the goal with Sarah’s expertise, but exceeded our expectations. Most importantly, Sarah helped our school create a development strategy that is replicable. As a school leader who had never directly fundraised, Sarah coached me not only to become comfortable, but to enjoy the development portion of my role.
